Rambling House seeks a skilled and passionate pastry baker to work as part of our team for our from-scratch café, restaurant and brewery. This position would begin in mid-August 2022. This individual will work closely with the kitchen team and ownership to create baked goods, pastries, breads and beautiful desserts. Attention to detail, creative interest, presentation, and the ability to work independently and flexibly are paramount. Ideally, applicants are looking for long-term growth within our family company.
Applicants must be comfortable with reporting to both of our Nashua locations, as needed.
Pay Range: $16-$20/hour
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Create and prepare from-scratch pastry, bread, and other dessert items, including attention to a range of dietary restrictions (e.g. gluten-free, vegan, nut-free, etc.)
Decorate pastries, baked goods, and desserts with a fine-tuned attention to detail and creative pride
Cater to a range of ages and interests (from child-appropriate recipes to beer and alcohol-infused/paired recipes)
Maintain consistency in quality, flavor, and design
Work closely with ownership and kitchen team to follow the mission, philosophy and menu styles presented across the board
Be comfortable working within seasonal flavors and from-scratch recipes
Follow, develop, and test creative and unique formulas
Prepare, clean, and organize ingredients for use in the kitchen
Ensure the kitchen is clean and sanitized at all times
Ensure food safety
Work well with teammates and any oncoming assistants
Maintain up-to-date knowledge about pastry arts and ingredients
Remain flexible with work locations, which will change between a commissary kitchen, on-site café, and catering operations
Lift, carry, and pull up to 50 lbs. at a time
Proven experience working as a pastry cook in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
Ability to creatively follow recipes, with interest in designing and developing new recipes
Solid foundation of knowledge of pastry arts and ingredients
Confidence in culinary techniques and skills
Diligent and meticulous order making and receiving
Strong organizational and time management skills
Physically able to stand for long hours each day in a hot kitchen
Flexible, creative, and adaptable
Working knowledge of, and respect for, dietary restrictions and ingredient limitations (gluten free, vegan, nut-free, etc.)
Able to work well, independently and as part of a team
